Dovetail Custom Wood & Metal is a commercial millwork subcontractor that also self-performs architectural metal and stone. General contractors get one team for estimating, design assist, engineering and shop drawings, fabrication, finishing and installation, built in a 110,000 sq. ft. shop in Del Valle, Texas, near Austin, for projects across the United States.
What does a general contractor get back on a bid?
A written proposal that states the scope included, exclusions and clarifications. Questions on the drawings and specifications are raised before the bid date so they can be answered by addendum. On request, Clark Coleman, Director of Preconstruction, provides preconstruction input including design assist.
How does Dovetail run preconstruction?
Five steps: budget and value engineering, design assist, engineering and shop drawings, samples and mockups, then fabrication and installation. Shop drawings are drawn in Microvellum, Cabinet Vision, Revit and AutoCAD to AWI standards and go to the design team and the general contractor for review before the shop builds.
How is the work released and delivered?
The production timeline is set during preconstruction. Work is then released in packages by area, level, room or element, and delivery is coordinated by Dovetail's logistics coordinators with the project manager, production manager and superintendents.
What is Dovetail's safety record?
Dovetail's experience modification rate is 0.57. All field supervisors are OSHA 30 certified and all shop managers are OSHA 10 certified.
