Dovetail fabricated the architectural millwork, metalwork and stone for Loren Hotel, a hospitality project in Austin, Texas, built by general contractor Hoar Construction with architect Rhode Partners. The scope runs from guest rooms on levels 2 through 7 to the lobby, the eighth-floor bar and restaurant and the cafe, and dated production ran through 2022.
What did Dovetail build at Loren Hotel?
Guest rooms include wood headboard walls, bed frames, closets, mini bars, desks, nightstands, TV stands and mirrors, metal entry portals, and bathroom vanities. In the lobby, Dovetail built the front desk and the reception wall panels. On the eighth floor, the bar lounge has an island, casework, a banquette frame, a host stand and a back wall of brass shelves, and the dining room has banquette substrates and screens. Elevator lobby panels run from level 1 to level 8, and the cafe, fitness rooms and apartment lobby were handled as separate pieces of work.
Which materials and finishes are in the Loren Hotel?
Brass, blackened steel, stainless steel, plain sawn walnut veneer, rift white oak and a shosugi ban wall appear by name in the scope. The cafe bar and island tops are Alpine granite. Dovetail's metal shop works in steel, stainless steel, aluminum, brass and perforated metals.
How was the work delivered?
Mock-ups were built along the way: a hotel room prototype, vanities, a headwall, a mini bar and an entry portal. Guest room work was organized in pairs of levels. Many pieces closed during 2022.
