Hospitality Millwork, Metal and Stone
Dovetail Custom Wood & Metal fabricates millwork, metal and stone for hotels, restaurants and wellness projects from its shop in Del Valle, Texas, near Austin. Its hospitality work includes Loren Hotel, Thompson Hotel, Austin Proper Hotel and Four Seasons Hotel. General contractors and design teams get engineering, finishing and installation from one company.

What does Dovetail build for hotels?
At Loren Hotel, Dovetail built guest rooms on levels 2 through 7, with wood headboard walls, bed frames, closets, mini bars, desks, nightstands, TV stands, mirrors, metal entry portals and bathroom vanities. In the lobby it built the front desk and reception wall panels, and on the eighth floor the bar lounge and dining room. At Thompson Hotel, it built two lobby desks with brass at the base, specialty wall paneling, a wood ceiling and a blackened steel bench support at the fireplace.
How does Dovetail handle repeating guest room and floor work?
Repeating work is proven first, then packaged by floor. Loren Hotel had mock-ups of a hotel room prototype, vanities, a headwall, a mini bar and an entry portal, and guest room work was organized in pairs of levels. At Thompson Hotel, Dovetail built a door mockup on Corafoam and cast resin mold components for the doors, then produced trim packages for guest floors 5 through 14 and routed elevator lobby panels on levels 5 through 16.
What about restaurants, bars and wellness spaces?
Dovetail's scope at The Kitchen Bistro was the Phase II package: bar and lounge wall panels, trim, cabinets, shelving and hardwood tops, plus a wine room with banquettes and shelves, in Douglas fir and other woods. Main production ran from June through December 2024. At Kuya Wellness, the lobby stair is a monumental metal stair wrapped in wood, and the tea counter has a metal structure, a stone top and wood trim. Sway Bee Caves is a restaurant with wood and metal work.

Dovetail's hotel and restaurant work has been built with Hoar Construction, Ryan Companies, Austin Commercial, Turner Construction and Structure Tone, with architects and designers including Rhode Partners, Kelly Wearstler Interior Design, Whitespace Interiors, Baldridge Architects and Michael Hsu Office of Architecture.
