Dovetail fabricated the architectural millwork, metalwork and stone for the University of Texas South End Zone, a sports project in Austin, Texas, built by general contractor Hensel Phelps with architect Populous. Drafting dates from June 2021, and installation ran from 2021 into 2022.
What did Dovetail build at the South End Zone?
The job covers the club levels, the field level and the football team areas. For the Founders Suites and the Founders Lounge, Dovetail made bars, drink rails, buffet and media casework, TV stands, show cooking counters and a vent hood. The Burnt Orange Club has its own bar and show cooking counter, and the field-level Bevo Club has east and west bars. Loge seating has casework and metal brackets.
In the Moncrief team areas on levels 1 and 2, the work includes meeting-room casework, a lobby desk, head coach reception, locker rooms, nutrition stations, rehab rooms and a corridor display cabinet. The metal scope includes exterior metal panels at the main team meeting room and meeting-room handrails.
Materials and finishes
Product lists name stained rift sawn white oak and rift sawn French oak for bases and TV stands, quartz countertops, marine grade plywood cabinets and perforated metal dividers. Samples cover stain submittals, rift white oak veneer paneling and Rimex metal matching.
How was the work delivered?
Installation was split into area packages: field level, two Moncrief packages, Burnt Orange, Founders Lounge, suite levels 1 through 4 east and west, and loge seating. Before production, the shop built a Founders Lounge TV stand mockup, ran bracket tests and submitted many finish samples.
