Dovetail fabricated the architectural millwork, metalwork and stone for Unity, a corporate tenant improvement project in Austin, Texas, built by general contractor Swinerton Builders with architect Interior Architects. The work covers the reception, break room, boardroom, tea point, music room and flexible work areas.
What did Dovetail build at Unity?
The room list is long and specific. It includes the reception desk and its panels, elevator surrounds, boardroom wall panels and window frame, and a concealed boardroom cabinet. The tea point has casework, an island, and rattan frames and panels. There are arches at the open collaboration area and the flexible work area, a coffee bar with an arch, a music room, a mother's room, and a pair of saloon doors. The gallery shows an orange-fronted reception desk, arched swinging doors and a kitchen with a stone island.
Materials and finishes
White oak appears in base moulding and sample panels, with poplar listed for countertops. Metal pieces include blackened steel doors, brass letters, metal reveal strips and metal soffit panels. Stone shows up as 2 cm countertops and tea point and IT island tops. Wood samples included charred tongue-and-groove.
How was the job delivered?
The work was released room by room. Samples and mockups were part of the job, including white oak samples, a panel mockup and a window frame mockup. Dovetail's drafting and engineering department builds to AWI standards and uses Microvellum and Revit, among other tools.
