Dovetail fabricated the architectural metalwork for Splunk, a corporate tenant improvement project in Plano, Texas, built by general contractor NOVO Construction with architect IA Interior Architects. The building is at 6860 Dallas Parkway. The metal work covers Levels 6, 7 and 8, followed by a second phase on Level 3 that finished in 2022.
What did Dovetail build at Splunk?
The most visible metalwork is the stair. The stair work covers stair sections between Levels 7 and 8, handrails, handrail posts on Levels 6 to 8, a stair light block and turn-down angle pieces. The gallery shows an angular black metal stair with a glass guardrail and a faceted black metal ceiling. Elsewhere on Levels 6 to 8 the list includes elevator lobby panels, call button plates, smoke curtain mounting panels, mirror frames for wellness rooms and locker rooms, and metal bases for banquettes. On Level 3 the metal work includes restroom vanity mirror frames, elevator display frames, an elevator jamb cover and ceiling brackets.
Materials and finishes
Steel appears as tube steel, steel plate and blackened steel elevator transom panels on Level 3, plus white powder-coated display boxes. Metal samples, elevator header samples and a mockup for a shoe block were also part of the job.
How was the job delivered?
The work came in two phases at the same address, Levels 6 to 8 first and Level 3 later. Each phase was released in small pieces by element, such as stair sections, mirror frames and ceiling brackets. Dovetail's metal shop works in steel, stainless steel, aluminum, brass and perforated metals.
